Yes, several - ones like dolls (see http://mysteifflife.blogspot.com/2009/12/its-better-together-with-steiff.html) and ones that are just the animal itself. Hedgehogs are big in Germany! If you want, take a picture or two of it (via cellphone is fine) and email them to steifflife@gmail.com and I will take a look for you.

Hi Rebekah,
Did Steiff ever make a hedgehog? If so, when? I think I found one at a local antique fair, but it has no identifiers. Just has the look and quality of a Steiff.
Thank you,
Suzanne

Yes, a Steiff is identified via its tags and button, but also by its design, materials, construction, jointing, etc.

Steiff is so collectible because of its legacy, quality, and the fact that it is recognized as the gold standard of collectible toys all over the world.

I am sorry, I am not familiar with valuing Gund. Perhaps send it to Worthpoint for a review! =)

I enjoyed your story. After reading it I wondered if the only real way to ID Steiff is by the button tag.
There must be circumstances when the tags get removed and lost.

Why is it that Steiff is so collectible?

Are they any other highly collectible stuffed animals to be on the look out for?

I have a old Gund bunny. I wonder what it is worth.

Hi Daniel, are you referring to a metal pitcher here? If so, that would be a different company than the Steiff company from Germany.

This rabbit looks so much like a stuffed lion animal my Mother-in-law gave my son. She said it belonged to his father when he was small, which would put it right at around fifty plus years old. Thank you for the valuable identification clues, I will dig it out of the hope chest soon to see if there are any matching marks!
