Enjoyed your article - getting people to leave their email or phone is challenging, but most will if asked. Mine is a consignment shop - no booths, so I rely on the ability to obtain and merchandise quality merchandise. There is a variety of items from antiques to the most recent trend. I find that offering a friendly atmosphere where people can browse and forget the outside world brings my customers back. I always play pleasant music.

I don't find Facebook or Twitter cost effective in terms of return on investment in my time spent using them. Outside of a well linked website, a blog with regular interesting articles tends to be best in terms of conversions to sales.

Michelle,

All of your suggestions mentioned in this first article I have already implemented to some degree. I am lacks in following up on Linkin, etc.

My biggest intimidation is Facebook and Twitter. I have accounts but I don't really know how to use them. Since they are really not intended as a sales tool, who do you write to and how do you find the people you want to write to?

I'm looking forward to Part II.

Great article! Having delt in antiques for several years I can second everything you mentioned. I have found that dealing over the web has opened many more markets that I could never reach before. Now the world becomes my market place. To be successful today, we have to open our minds to that fact. Antiques are appreciated to world over and many people from distant countries desire antiques from the USA. Use the web and any web based options to open the world to your business.
