Victor Samuel Johnson founded the Western Lighting Company in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1907. In 1908 the company became the Mantle Lamp Company of America. In 1909, Johnson introduced the Aladdin lamp. Although the company has diversified and become as well known for its lunch boxes and vacuum bottles as its lamps, lamps are still being manufactured today.
