Beatlemania took the country by storm in 1964, the year the Beatles appeared on “The Ed Sullivan Show.” Members of the Fab Four included George Harrison, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and Ringo Starr (who replaced original drummer Pete Best in 1962). The most desirable items were produced between 1964 and 1968 and are marked “NEMS.”
The group disbanded in 1970 and individual members pursued their own musical careers. John Lennon’s tragic murder in New York City in 1980 invoked a new wave of interest in the group and its memorabilia.
