Dear Laura Collum,

could you please contact me via E-Mail? I am probably going to write my bachelor thesis about a bloodletting lancet by Kolb and I would love to get more information about him. I have tried to search for information about him as well, but I would be glad to get in contact with you and maybe find out more about him.

Best regards!

Congratulations Ms. Collum. Congratulations also for being able to track down "Aderlaß= und Schröpf=Schnepperfabrikant" (manufacturer of phlebotomy instruments and scarificators) Heinrich Theodor Kolb from Fürth. It took me half a day to do the same. Collectors of scarificators have a lot to say about Kolb, a manufacturer in Vienna. So far, however, I´ve been unable to detect even a trace of that workshop but it may well be that the two of them are connected in some way. If you happen to have knowledge surpassing mine I´d be happy if you´d let me know.
Now about "Neusilber": as a matter of fact "German silver" has nothing to do with silver at all. "Neusilber", "Alpakka" or "Argentan" is an alloy consisting of 45-70% copper, 8-45% zinc and 8-28% nickel. Hoping this information is of value to you I am yours sincerely, Martin Widmann

First, thank you for the informaiton regarding the scarifictors and showing the various types.

I've came upon a scarifictor with in my clan's safe guarded old stuff...but no one ever really knew what it was. We'd have fun, sit around and make up what it was. Much like the game show 'liars club'. It was everthing from a miniture golf putting set from Lorraina Bobbit to (as mention) a civil war era bloodletting tool...and claims it was worth $1000's of dollars.

The type we have is much like the multi-bladed in horn cover ($95), but ours has an addtional small straight blade with in it's brass incasing and a protuding poker needle-hook that sets outside the case. I must say, those blade are extremely sharp.

Again, thank you for this information online.
