CGC is an option but it can be risky. Like you said, you'd be investing more in the comic and there's no telling what the actual grade might be. Unfortunately, apart from waiting to see what happens with the comic's value, CGC is your only immediate option for turning a big profit. I would recommend waiting. The TV show is coming back and when it does the market will probably heat back up. WD #1's certainly aren't going to become any less rare in that time. If you want to try CGC I'd find a reputable comic shop in your area and ask their opinion on the comic's condition first. Find a shop whose dealt with CGC and they can give you an idea whether or not it'd be worth your time.

ASM #583 is another story. You're probably right that with his popularity dipping the price of the comic also fell but more to the point was the flooding of the market. After the initial popularity of the Spidey appearance Obama popped up in every comic from Barak the Barbarian to Youngblood. If this one goes up in value it won't be for a while. But who knows, maybe this time next year we'll all have affordable health care, unemployment will fall below %5, the Dow will be at an all time high and nerds will be buying Obama comics again. All we can do is wait and see.

Hi Matt,

I have been following your blog for quite a while and I bought a copy of the walking dead #1 in nm conditon for $333. I was looking to sell it for a much higher price but the price for a near mint walkng dead copies has plunged to a much lower price of around $100-150 probably since the show ended. Is there anything you recommend I should do to sell it for a higher price than the $333 that I bought it for. I know I can get it graded from CGC but that would seriously cost me at least another $100 in shipping grading and membership fees.

I really appreciate all the new information you provide for comic buffs and newbies as myself.
Thank You
Diana

PS would you know if the Obama #583 issue will ever value themselves higher than $50 since I know his popularity is going down I am thinking that so will the value on this comic based on that
