Comics Auction Watch – Great Silver-Age Buys

by Matt Baum (10/24/11).

Auction Watch!

Amazing Fantasy #15

Incredible Hulk #181

Comic Link’s Focused Auction for October completes its bidding Tuesday through Sunday and there’re some amazing Silver-Age Marvel comics worth bidding on. Most notably:

Five different copies of Amazing Fantasy #15 (first appearance of Spider-Man, Marvel, 1962) in conditions from CGC 7.5 all the way down to a very affordable CGC .5 current at $1,301 with 32 bids.

Another is Incredible Hulk #181 (first appearance of Wolverine, Marvel, 1974) CGC 9.8. This is the second-highest graded copy of Hulk #181, one graded at CGC 9.9 recently sold for $150,000, also on Comic Link, but it’s definitely going to receive some serious bidding attention. Currently this one is sitting at $7,501 with 36 bids.

Giant Size X-men #1

Fantastic Four #48

This highest-graded example of Giant Size X-men #1 (Marvel, 1975) in CGC 9.8 condition was the issue that reinvigorated the X-Men in the 1970s, with the first appearance of Storm, Nightcrawler and Colossus and the second appearance of Wolverine. Currently this one is sitting at $3.501 with 31 bids.

And finally, one of my favorite Fantastic Four back-issues, Fantastic Four #48 (Marvel, 1966) in CGC 9.8 condition. This is the first appearance of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s biggest (literally) villain, Galactus, and his herald the Silver Surfer. This is also the highest certified copy with only 20 others in the same condition. Currently, this copy of FF #48 is sitting at $4,100 with 38 bids.

These are just four examples of the 200-plus Golden, Silver, and Bronze age comics in the October Focused Auction. Even if your poor like me, make sure you take a look at these amazing back-issues.

I know right. If you’d like to put our heads together there’s got to be some scheme we could come up with to steal one we could share.
