Hi Christine,

I think you may be referring to this trivet design that recently sold on eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Brass-Trivet-Horse-Shoe-Cat-6-inches-long-/160459987602?pt=UK_Antiques_DecorativeAntiques_Collectables_EH

More commonly found on UK auction sites, it's a British trivet that was cast sometime between the 1930s to 1960s. Nice and sturdy and unsigned on the reverse, mine measures 6 3/8 x 5 x 1 1/4" with 4 legs. It's value would range from $25 to $60, depending upon condition.

I have recently found a brass/bronze horseshoe trivet with patterns around the edges and a cat in the centre with Good Luck cast along the bottom. It has 4 legs. Could you let me have any information on this please?

Many thanks

Hello Steve,

Your Horseshoe Plaque Trivet is an IOOF trivet ... the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. This organization was brought from England to Boston in 1819 and is a group united in Friendship, Love and Truth - the Three Rings Of FLT, as depicted on your trivet. Peaking at 3.5 million members in 1915, the organization declined sharply after the Depression and is still active today, with about 500,000 members nationwide.

Other symbols on your trivet are the All-Seeing Eye and the Fraternal Handshake.

IOOF Horseshoe Plaque Trivets are among the more common ones, and yours is a very basic design. A trivet like yours, in good condition without cracks or pitting from rust, might sell in the $25 to $50 range.

Thanks for your question!
