I have a hardanger rectangle doily than is about 125 yrs old. It was saved in an attic, rolled on a cardboard, empty paper towel roll. The paper towel roll has leached into the fabric on about 4" at one end. How do I get this out?

Thank you for your thourough confirmation of what my elders taught me in the day about cleaning linen.

I want to know how you do this with out fading colorful hand painting or embroidery on the piece.

Thank you for your years of a faithful business.

Hot hot water will remove grease. Boiling if you can. It will heat up the grease and cause it to leave

Does anyone have any ideas on getting car grease out of an 85 year old linen embroidered table cloth....the linen is not white but a sort of beige color. It also has silk fringe!

Did you get an answer back about your bedspread? I have a tablecloth that is crocheted like your bedspread and wondered what response you got back on how to clean it. My tablecloth weighs about 7 pounds dry also with no missing stitches. Any info/insight would be great. Thanks.

This is helpful. I do have a question. I found a beautiful bedspread made of heavy cotton thread. It is very closely crocheted, and very heavy when dry. It needs to be washed or cleaned somehow. I would like to use the washer, just not agitate, however, in order to pick it up wet, it would probably weight at least 50 pounds since it is about 20 pounds dry. Can I spin dry it if I only spin it for about a minute or so and remove it immediately? The beadspread was made in the mid 1800's and is in perfect condition except for the dirt - no tears or missed stitches in the crocheting.
