I wondered about this at one point too, but would never have had the imagination to craft such a delightful article which had me guffawing and groaning at the same time...bravo! Let them eat cake (if they dare).

Speaking of royals, has anyone seen a ceramic cutting board commemorating Charles and Diana's wedding distributed through Safeway Market? It is a limited edition, I think. I found one at an antiques shop in North Carolina. I haven't been able to find any background information on it. The information on the wedding cake/boxes was fascinating. Thanks for sharing!

WoW Jeff, thanks so much for sharing that with us. I'm really impressed with your rare wedding cake box and have never heard of another American box that old, especially a presidential one. You have a very unique piece.

I have a satin covered, embroidered cake box that has been trimmed inside with lace. It is embroidered with flowers and the letters CF entwined with the date June 2nd 1886. A small card with the signatures of Grover Cleveland and Frances Folsom has been glued to the top. Alas, there is no longer any cake inside.

I just never thought about collecting wedding cakes of notable couples. Very interesting, especially knowing a piece of Queen Victoria's cake has survived 172 years. You now have me wondering how many other boxes of the this vintage cake that were thought so special may still be out there .
