I've got to admit, Nova is a fantastic book. The writers, Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning (affectionately known as DnA)have been around for awhile and I have usually enjoyed their work. A few examples include: Resurrection Man (DC); Legion Lost (DC); The Legion (DC); Majestic (Wildstorm)and Annhilation (Marvel)were all very solid, entertaining reads. The upcoming Annhilation/Nova spin-off Guardians of the Galaxy should be outer space storytelling at its finest. Their Legion work in particular holds a strong place in my heart. While I love Mark Waid, the shift from DnA's Legion to Mr. Waid's Legion felt very jarring and horribly unnecessary. I have recently purged my collection of Mark Waid's Legion but have no intent on getting rid of DnA's run. It is a shame DC Comics (yes, Dan Didio again) "traded" Dan and Andy to Marvel for Jim Starlin. No disrespect to Mr. Starlin but I would have been way more excited to see DnA refresh DC's cosmic characters than the current plan by Mr. Starlin and 90's art sensation Ron Lim.

I stand by Nova and accept your challenge Zogwretch. You name the comic shop and I'll meet you in the parking lot. I'll be the shirtless guy slapping his fists and screaming like Hack-Saw Jim Dugan.

HO-OOO!

First things first. Titan's #1 was not great by any stretch of the imagination and hearing that Joe Benitez is next up to bat on art duties does not leave me hopeful. However, this is only issue #1 and I'm willing to give Winick a chance. Yes the art sucked and may be getting worse for the time being but I did like the overall feel of the book, other than Raven being a generic-black-fingernail-polish-wearing-emo-high-school student. They have three issues before I give up altogether. Then I'm all for beating the hell out of Dan DiDio. This issue felt a little forced and very light on content other than ;
Page one, character saying something witty, Page two MONSTER.
Page Three, character naked but with naughty bits cleverly covered, Page four Monster.

Come on Judd Winick, I believe in you and need you to make Wally West great again after his lackluster return.

The original New Teen Titans by Marv Wolfman & George Perez is one of my series of all time. Perez is my favorite artists and Nightwing is my favorite character. So, I had very high expectations for this book. Unfortunately, it appears that you can't go home again. Let me preface that I plan to continue to read this book because one issue isn't enough. I do have to agree that the art was horrible. It might have been fine in the mid-90's but not now. I generally like Judd Winick's work and would like to believe his self-reported reverence for the source material. However, I do not trust Dan Didio as far as I can throw him. If this book ultimately fails I will place responsibility on him.

Oh and...NOVA rocks!!!!

I say nova is one of the worst books out there right now, if not the worst! I invite your fistacuffs my dear friends.
Maybe if you have time to remove your oversized heads from one another rectums we may see who will have the bloddy noses.

your pal always!

Matt-

BOOOOOOOOOO-URNS to KU!! Rock chalk this!! Besides it's baseball season and Alfonso Soriano is KILLING my fantasy team.

So. Titans #1 by Winick and Churchill. As you know, I am FAR from a Winick-basher. I love his Green Arrow/Black Canary and I enjoyed his much-reviled Batman run.

Having said that....

Titans #1 was TERRIBLE!!! Churchill's awful art didn't help (Benitez is even worse, so no relief there-Hey Joe, all superheroes don't need to look like they are on the juice, ya know? See John Stewart in his JLA issues for reference). I am one of the biggest Wolfman/Perez Teen Titan's fan you'll ever meet (second only to our friend and my employee Big Mike, who wants to marry Dick Grayson. Me, I'm a Donna Troy kinda guy) and this is a flat-out travishamockery of a comic. I did like the idea of Trigon bringing the team back together. He was arguably the greatest threat the New Teen Titans ever faced so it seemed appropriate. What didn't I like? Everything else!

Nova was AWESOME!!!!!
Talk about an emotional yo-yo...I was all "aaaawwwww" and then I was all "YESSSSSSS"!!!

Self likes!!!!

I join Matt in threatening your nose's well being if you aren't reading Nova. Put down the mediocre comics and start reading this and Annihilation:Conquest.

OK, late.
