Just wanted to say I appreciate the articles each week. I use them to help me gauge what to buy (specifically the Indies) so I don't miss something on Wednesdays that will cost a fortune later. If it wasn't for your article on Chew, I never would have picked it up, now it's one of my favorite books!

Regarding Spider-woman, I only bought the Ross cover last Wednesday, but after reading your article I decided to call around to the local comic shops. I live in Louisville, Ky and there are roughly 7 comic shops in the area. All but one shop had sold out, and the one that didn't carries comics, but isn't known for comics (they are a used-CD/DVD store). They had 2 left, 1 of each cover so I picked them up.

I think you are right on here, Spider-woman is going to skyrocket in the coming weeks (probably not to Chew levels though IMO).

1. Haven't heard much on the Boom/Disney front but that is an interesting question. If I had to guess I would say that Disney will wait until the end of the initial contract and then take the rights back. Just guessing here.

2. The thinking here is that: Say you own a comic shop and I am one of your customers that strictly buys Marvel Comics. I'm a nut for them and buy anything Marvel publishes. the day Marvel changes it's cover price to $1.99 you, the shop owner are only making half as much profit on my sales. Here's another thought; If Marvel were to drop to $1.99 DC would surely follow suit. The two control more than 80% of the comic market leaving shop owners making 50% less on 80% or more of their sales. That could be a giant loss. Now, if the new lower price brings in twice as many customers then you are back to where you were however, thinking the comic reading market would double even if the price were .99 is probably wishful thinking.

Two questions (which probably fit better for last weeks column).
1. Does anyone know when the contract with Boom and Disney is for?
2. If Disney drops the price of Marvel comics to $1.99 (please, please, please) how does the comic shop lose half their profits? Didnt the rumors say Disney would be taking the hit here? A comic drops from either $3.99 or $2.99 down to $1.99, shops should not lose but instead gain from more sales.

Jeff Cambell is an amazing artist... any chance Marvel will get him on a regular series? Perhaps Marvel Divas would have been a good art opportunity for him. Frank Cho, Eric Basaldua and Adam Warren roud out my top 4 artists.
