That's insane. So funny how it was meant to be an anti capitalist game, and became the antithesis

Plastefuchs- interestingly, board games as a medium tend to shy away from serious social or political commentary. Rather unfortunately, I think. I've not played the original Landlord Game, but from what I understand it plays out in two phases- one where the monopolies run amuck and ruin the economy and threaten the poor, and a follow-up that demonstrates how the Georgian Single Tax solves the problem. A pretty interesting concept, there really isn't anything like it in modern gaming.

Sag- it's true, Monopoly has such a wide reach. Part of it is because the subject matter is something _anyone_ can relate to and appreciate. It's not some obscure theme or esoteric historical setting. It's about making money and losing it.

I am not a big fan of Monopoly, but i'd love to see and play a game with the original rules that had something to say about monopolism.

Thank you for the article, it is quite a nice insight into the history of the game. :)

Three of my kids (11, 8 and 8) stumbled across Monopoly at a cousin's house and absolutely loved it. They told me I needed to buy them a copy (I have three) so that they could play at home. The game still has the ability to engage even after 100 years of varied history, and reaches down to a much younger age than most adults think.

By the way, in my "Chesapeakeopoly" version you get $300 for passing Go. That guy should go to jail.

Directly to jail.
