Dutch Bible 1681 (7/24/08)
I have recently come to own a Dutch bible which I believe could have some value, and I would be keen to know if anyone has any suggestions of where I can get it valued, particularly if it is worth my while insuring it. It is 10×16 inches, 6 inches thick, complete with original cover, pages, maps and images and was restored from a bundle of papers so the spine is not original.

A Scrimshaw Mystery Solved! (7/24/08)

July Antique Show in Washington (7/23/08)
This past weekend was the D.C. Big Flea, a huge 2 building antique show in Chantilly, Virginia. It is a two day general antiques and collectibles show. The show’s promoters, D’more, advertise well and really get the people in the door.

Brimfield: A Tiny Town, An Antiques Mecca (7/23/08)
It is a small town like many other small towns. A main street that is only a mile long without even a stoplight along the way. Small mom-and-pop stores and a fast-food place just outside the town limit. Population about 5,000 or so. That is Brimfield, Mass., most days. However, for one week in May, July and September, Brimfield becomes “The Nation’s Antiques Capital.”

Antique cast iron wall mounting candle or latern holder (7/22/08)
This is a 19th century item that I bought from an estate sale. I have gone online to see if anything resembles this candle/latern holder. Some items I have seen resemble and are in the $800.00-1,000 range. My candle/latern holder swivels.

The Comic Speculator: The Dark Knight (7/21/08)
Unless you live under a rock you’ve probably heard that the sequel to Batman, The Dark Knight, opened in theaters last Friday. If you’re reading this blog I can only assume that you are a nerd like me and you’ve already seen The Dark Knight at least once. The buzz around the new Batman is mainly centered on Health Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker.
