 I came into possession of two pins or badges that I inherited from a relative’s estate. They were acquired in England sometime during World War Two. Any information that anyone may have concerning these would be appreciated.

 I discovered that flags were an educational hobby in early 1980. Realizing that the study of flags was called vexillology and that I was a vexillologist was a personal breakthrough. Many aspects of my interest in flags, such as heraldry, art, history, culture, language, sociology, color and design, are encompassed within this discipline.

On 9 April 2008, Sotheby’s are auctioning a Sikh armour plate in their ‘Arts of the Islamic World’ sale. It is just one artifact of many in the category, but the one that has caused the most stir, mainly for religious reasons more than heritage ones.

Last week I read about Sotheby’s upcoming auction on 9 April 2008, where up for sale is Lot No. 269, “A Rare Sikh Steel Armour Plate, North West India/Pakistan, 18th Century” that might have once belonged to the Tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh (1675-1708).

 At the start of World War II, equipment issued to troops by the Japanese Army typically was based on European designs. As the war progressed, material shortages became extreme and the Japanese took many measures to minimize the use of metal in any form. Metal features such as buckles on packs, helmets and other equipment were replaced by cloth or rubberized leather.

If you can’t use the American flag as a weapon, then what’s freedom of speech all about, anyway?
That could very well be the way some interpret the actions of the flag-wielding young man in the above photo. In reality, most everyone was horrified by the image.
