||The Legend of Tutankhamun Collection Tutankhamun and His Princess Bradford Exchange
Tutankhamun and His Princess Collector's Plate from the Bradford Exchange was Inspired by the magnificent golden shrine discovered in the tomb of the Golden Monarch. Tutankhamun and His Princess marks the release of the first collector's plate series ever to be created in Egypt. For this premier issue, artist Nageh Nassif Bichay captures the timeless romance of Tutankkhamun and his beloved Ankhesenamun.
In brilliant pigments echoing the precious gems of ancient Egypt - Lapis lazuli, sapphire, ruby, jade, and topaz - we see the lovers much as they appeared in life. The fair princess sits at the feet of the king. Their tunics of finest linen, gemstudded collars, and elaborate headdresees, all highlighted in 22-karat gold, set them apart as heirs to power and wealth beyond our imagining. Yet the love they shared over three thousand years ago is no different than that of young couples today.
Only the murmur of swallows overhead disturbs the silence; only the graceful reeds and flowering papyrus witness the royal couple's progress down the River Nile. We can almost imagine the young Pharoah gazing into the dramatic kohl-lined eyes of his beloved and whispering the words of this ancient Egyptian love poem, meticulously rendered in authentic hieroglyphs on the rim of the plate:
'You shall not fly,
nor shall I, bright bird.
But hand in hand
We shall walk the Nileside pathways
under cool of branches, hidden
(only the swallows watching)-
I shall be with you in all glad places'.
The devotion of Tutankhamun and his princess is beautifully conveyed in the first plate in the Legend of Tutankhamun collection, 'Tutankhamun and His Princess'.
The back of your plate is hand numbered and authenticated in hieroglyphs, the written language of ancient Egypt. It reads of follows: 'Tutankhamun and His Princess' by Nageh Nassif Bichay Premier Issue in the Legend of Tutankhamun, the first limited-edition collector's plate series created in Tgypt. Inspired by the images entombed with the boy-king in 1323 B.C. and authenticated by the Dr. Ragah Papyrus Institute and Museum of Cairo. Fired on fine porcelain in an edition limited to 195 firing days.
