GERBER limited President's Collection stag handled set (number 136/1,000)
This is a highly collectible(Limited) Presidential Collection manufactured by the well known and prestigious maker, "Gerber". If you are a Gerber collector then you know this set doesn't come up for sale everyday. This particular set is a set of 3 and one of only a few that were hand engraved by Pierce. The others are pretty plain and don't have this much detail and one of a kind craftsmanship. They were produced in the 1970's and only 1,000 were made, this set of which has unique features and engraving work by one of the best. These knives were stored away safely in there case, almost untouched for years and were not exposed to sun, moisture, or any other damaging factors. It comes in its original solid walnut display chest. The chest is lined with red velvet. Being 40+ years old the velvet has become very delicate and is prone to tearing. It is deteriorated and has tears as shown in pictures which seems to be common due to the glue/ adhesive they used to attach the fabric during manufacturing. Most of the sets that are selling today have similar deteriorating fabric and can be easily replaced. The knives themselves are unused and un sharpened and have never been carried. Overall condition is excellent for age. They only have normal handling wear from being handled and having the blade opened and closed on rare occasion with minor surface scuffs. View pictures and examine for yourself. They have no dings, damage, or nicks.the largest knife has an overall length of 5-1/8” closed with a 4-3/8” blade length, the middle knife has an over all length of 4-1/4” closed with a 3-3/4” blade length and the smallest knife has an overall length of 3-3/8” closed with a 2-7/8” blade length. This set is numbered 136/1000 and came with it's original authenticity presentation card signed by Pete Gerber with it's craftsmanship information and validation number. The steel is 440 C stainless and is hardened to 57-59 C on the Rockwell scale. This is a burly set with beautiful, heavy, thick, hand selected Sambhar Stag handles. This set consists of 3 matching lock back Sportsman knives. Small, medium, and large hunter. All three are hand engraved front and rear brass bolsters done by a master engraver and signed and stamped on the blade tang with the appropriate, "Gerber" makers mark and, "Portland. Or 97223 U.S.A," on the reverse tang. They are all stamped on there brass butt with there appropriate manufacturing number 0136, validating that these all belong to the same set manufactured from the limited 1,000 produced. Overall this set is a looker and a great example of master craftsmanship from the 1970's. This would make an excellent addition to any collection and are becoming very rare to find for sale and in such great condition. There is no returns on this item so please read description, view pictures, and ask questions prior to purchasing. Thanks for your interest.
