Messer Calf S/P Shaker
- Item Category: Ceramics
Up for sale is a very cute calf shaker that is in GREAT condition. There are no cracks or chips of any sort. There is no plug in the shaker anymore and there is some hand writing on the bottom of the calf that seems to read "O.T. and 1.25" and something else that I can not make out. I am not an antique specialist I am just trying to sell some things that have been passed down to me that I have no use for. So if you have any questions feel free to ask before the sale of the item. I will try and answer all questions to the best of my knowledge or lack of! From what I have found on Joe Messer is that he and his wife started a business in 1952 running out of Bowman, North Dakota out of his father-in-laws chicken coop. He made his own kilns out of odds and ends and also made his own molds. He imported clay from Pennsylvania for his porcelain and used clay from the local area for his thrown items. He made vases, figurines, salt and pepper shakers, planters, and plaques/book ends. They eventually moved into a garage for more space and a name "The Pot Shop", but ended up closing the doors in 1956. This item along with others I am selling were all part of my great grandmother's collection and would be a great addition to anyone else's out there that wants a great piece of history.
