THIS AUCTION IS FOR A 26" KUAN YIN & BUDDAH ANTIQUE IVORY STATUE, DEPICTING THE GODDESS QUAN YIN. SHE HOLDS A WILLOW BRANCH IN ONE HAND AND A FLOWER VASE IN THE OTHER. HER GARB IS ADORNED WITH PEARLS AND T IS A BIRD AT HER FEET. BUDDAH ADORNS THE CROWN OF HER HEAD DRESS. THE ENTIRE STATUE WAS CARVED FROM A SINGLE PIECE OF IVORY.
Quan Yin is one of the most universally beloved of deities in the Buddhist tradition. Also known as Kuan Yin, Quan'Am (Vietnam), Kannon (Japan), and Kanin (Bali), She is the embodiment of compassionate loving kindness. Quan Yin enjoys a strong resonance with the Christian Mary, the Mother of Jesus, and the Tibetan goddess Tara.
