Description: Original Coty Advertising Illustration Art Nouveau 1920’s ?
My background in art/design/ and graphics prompted me to buy this beautiful illustration over 30 years ago from an antique dealer dealing with European items. This is an original/vintage/antique illustration done in the manner of Mucha and Erte probably 1920’s-30’s in the Art Deco/Art Nouveau style. It is an advertising template for Coty perfume. The Coty perfume company is the worlds largest fragrance company and is over 100 years old. It was started by Francois Coty in Paris in 1904. He revolutionized the fragrance industry and by 1920 Coty owned and controlled all aspects of his fragrance production, including flower fields, packaging factories, print shops and delivery vehicles. It is likely that this illustration was produced as an idea for the packaging of a Coty product. It is signed Muha or MUW (best I can make out, please study the pics). The skill of the artist and the detailing are fabulous in the drawing…take note of the hand lettering of the headline, certainly a LOST ART with today’s computer graphics. The illustration measures 9” x 12” with the overall Original framed size . I carefully removed it from behind glass in order to take pictures and look for any more clues to identify. The condition is beautiful, excellent! Please note…I am NOT making any clains about this illustration…this is all speculation based on limited resources and investigation.
