Comic Books

This is the beginning of an organic collectors community that will grow and change with new members. In the near future I picture this community splitting into separate collector groups each focusing on different periods and genres of comics. For now we'll be sticking to general discussion of comic collecting from high-dollar golden-age collector's pieces to modern-age hot titles and speculator's books.

Unless you live under a rock you’ve probably heard that the sequel to Batman, The Dark Knight, opened in theaters last Friday. If you’re reading this blog I can only assume that you are a nerd like me and you've already seen The Dark Knight at least once. The buzz around the new Batman is mainly centered on Health Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker.

Wednesday is upon us yet again and that means one thing! Well one thing for comic nerds anyway. New comic day! It's mid-july, crossovers season is in full swing, comic book movies rule the box office, the Cubs are still first in their division and the new Batman movie opens this weekend. Who could ask for more?

As the rivers begin to recede so begins the new comics shipment delays. The shelves at your local comic shop may look a little bare this week. That's not to say there isn't a huge stack of new comics in your future. If you're a Marvel nerd like me, between every Avengers book, three X-titles along with 1985 #2 and Iron Fist all coming out on the same day, you got buried.

This Wednesday one of my favorite writers returns to comics after a much too long absence. ”James Robinson” wrote some of the most important and best comics of the 1990's and then fell off the radar. Well not completely off the radar. Robinson left comics to pursue his writing carrier in Hollywood.

This week new comics day comes on the eve of the premiere of the new Hulk movie and the and man-oh-man the fanboys are rumbling. There seems to be two schools of thought on Hulk; “I'm excited” or “I'm scarred”. Count me in the second school. What worries me is that Marvel has already leaked every cool moment of the film in the multiple trailers.

Hispanic Heroes of the Marvel U

Continuing my theme of Hispanic Superheroes, today we'll be looking at a few of Marvel Comics famous Latinas. While the list of Marvel's Hispanic heroes is slightly longer than DC's I was a little shocked to notice that there were no major-first tier characters on it. When discussing comic books you often will see certain terms thrown around to describe book's condition; like “Very Good+”, “Near Mint” and “Fine”. When represented properly, they can be very helpful, especially when buying comics on-line and you can’t directly see what you’re getting.
