Great story. One of the things I love about selling on the internet is finding items here in Florida at estate sales and charity outlets, and sending them back "home". One of my favorite transactions was finding a drawing here in Florida by a regional artist of some repute from another state, putting it up for sale on the internet and being contacted by her niece, who purchased it to give to her father (the artist was deceased and the sister and niece of the artist were competing on line to find her lost works). I basically broke even on the transaction, but it was worth it to bring some joy to the family of the artist.

This is a most engaging story. I am a realtor, decorator, and marketer/publicist -- and a lover and collector of antiques. I also go on obsessive quests for items I really want to have. I am happy for you in your successful acquisition -- you really deserved those chairs!

Christopher, your stories on the travails of the antiques business, like this one, are a scream and a half. They should be rented out like NetFlix for the sheer entertainment value, with the educational value thrown in for free. You are too fun. By the way, what exactly is a commode anyway?

You know, those two chairs, they knew that they belonged to you, but, they enjoyed the ultimate tease! They made you follow them on a globe trot, but in the end they deemed you worthy of them. DON'T ever get rid of them, you know you'd regret it....they'd be angry at you.....

I loved this story! It gives me hope. I am on the search for work done by my step-grandfather, Frank Happ, and feel I am searching for a needle in haystack. If you can find your chairs after such a storied adventure....maybe I can find my Grandpa Frank piece!

This is a great story. Well written and fun to read. I am a firm believer in the " meant to be " as in "meant to belong to" aspect of antique buying and selling. That is just one of the reasons I remain in this business despite the uncertain finances!
