Hello Mr.Martin my name is Shelton. While cleaning out my great grand daddys back room i came along a Underwood typewriter. My question is how can i find out how old it is and how much is it worth.I was just laid off and this could pay a bill. The only thing i can find on it is some numbers. They are 11 6882530...On the front top it has underwood protected by united states and foreign patents..On the very top is a red sign that said Check with Von George Stuart Orlando Florida.Thank you for your time..Please e-mail me at Sheltongraham76@yahoo.com or call me at 229 472 1305 Again Thank You

Hi Dustin,

In general 20th century typewriters with their standard designs (unlike 19th century typewriters) have modest values today. However there is a resurgence of interest towards manual typewriters from the under thirty crowd who grew up on computers.

I would say that your L.C.Smith typewriter is worth around $75 to $125 and might best find a new owner through Kijiji or Ebay.

Regards,
Martin Howard

I have a 1937 L.C smith super speed #11 that I wish to sell, but an antique shop offered me $25.00 for it. Where can I find somebody that's serious?

Hi Sonja,

Underwoods have modest values as so many were manufactured.
An Underwood 6 in good condition is worth around $100.

Jeremy

My phone shows no record of you just calling. Try again if you like, I am here.

If you care to, send me some photos of both typewriters and I will be better able to see the condition of these machines.

Tried calling you but got no answer. I did some research and apparently the Hansen No.45 is not a part as I suspected, but an actual writing machine (although one I have never seen!). I found the base that it screws into. Looks like it's made of brass. I think its called a "writing ball" and not a real typewriter. There is a curved part beneath the ball which holds the paper, I think. Kind of a neat looking thing. This gizmo and the other typewriter were found in a basement of a small machinery repair workshop. The proprietor passed away and I am cleaning the place up. Might make for a unique paperweight.

Tried to send you another email about this other thing I found. Not sure if it went through. I don't think its very important though. I think it's only an interior part of a machine called a Hansen 45.
