I have recently been thinking of trading my Bass (an Epiphone EB-0) for a guitar and came across this as a prospective trade. Its an even match for my bass price wise, as the Garage Master is being sold on ebay for about $200. I'd assume it would be a good investment as well, as its likely to become a collectors item.
Volks Guitar by Chris Hughes
I take it that is the guitar that comes with new Volkswagons? I saw the commercials. Too cool!
Do you know who is making these guitars for Volks? They remind me of a Burns guitar.
Are they being sold separately? I am assuming that the ones you are finding on ebay are being listed by Volks owners that are not interested in playing electric guitar...
VW guitar information by therockinboots
If my memory is functioning correctly, these guitars are made by First Act. First Act makes entry level guitars usually costing no more than $150 US. You can probably find some of their products at your local Wal-Mart.
As for this particular instrument, it's about what you could expect from most entry level guitars. I played one about a year ago after my friend purchased a Volkswagon. While the guitar looks very cool, don't expect it to feel like an instrument you'll want to play all the time. The one I played had rather sharp fretwire which was not properly beveled to match the edges of the fretboard. Consequently, it had a tendency to catch the high e-string and was not very forgiving on my fingers. The quality of woods and finish reflected that this guitar was a gimmick, likely marketed to everyone but the serious musician. Nonetheless, I would not be surprised if the VW styling on the limited numbers of these instruments makes them coveted items a few years from now. If I had one, I would unstring it and place it in a closet along with a framed VW guitar giveaway advertisement. If I were richer and had unlimited garage space, I would park the VW and try to sell it with the guitar at a Kruse auction years from now.
