Very small piece of work by MARTIN RETTIG
Hello. I recently acquired this piece by Martin Rettig. It is much smaller than his usual works, a mere 5" x 7." I have had it checked by a local dealer and he confirmed authenticity. I am curious as to the signature being on the LEFT side of the work and not the normal right. Can anyone out there share some light on this subject? Thank you in advance. LK

That is a sweet and lovely painting. I looked around at some recent sales from this artist, just to see where the signature was placed. In most cases, it was on the right, but in a few cases it was in the middle, and a couple on the left, as this example, which is 11.25" x 14" and sold for $500 in 2012. So perhaps there are no clear patterns in the way he signs his work? Anyone else with any thoughts?

Thank you so very much for taking the time to do some research about the artists signature placement. Have a nice evening.
