Early 1900s Antique Chest/trunk with old pic under lid....identify? help
I am liquidating an estate for the first time and we have found this old trunk or chest. Very old seemingly but I cant identify it. Looks like some old straps were removed. there is an old picture in the lid, just looks scenic. Does anyone recognize or hazard a guess as to year or can it be identified. I am ultimately trying to price it for an estate sale. thx much anyone!

This is a pretty standard hump top trunk of a type made from the 1870's through the 1890's. The dome top was used to shed water, as they were often shipped by wagon or stage coach. The later trunks used on trains and ships had flat tops for stacking in the luggage cars on trains and storage compartments on ships. Most of these hump back trunks were lined with paper, some with images of famous actors , singers or other performers of the era under the lid. They were made in huge numbers,of which many survive to this day, so values for them "As Found" still tend to be rather modest for them.
