Man killed by Civil War artillery shell (11/10/08)

The artillery shell that exploded Monday and killed a Civil War relics dealer outside his Chesterfield County home was a cannonball about 8 to 10 inches in diameter, a federal official said yesterday.

old glass bottle (11/1/08)
Bottle found next to a Civil War burial monument over run with growth and weeds. Clear glass bottle is 8″ tall, lower half is hexagonal in shape. Bottom of bottle is round and 2″ in diameter. Top of the bottle is 1″ in diameter. A letter F on the bottom of the bottle. The numbers 435 across the bottom edge of the bottle. The Civil War captain buried there died in 1885.

Civil War Collectibles (5/10/08)
It’s been a fabulous few days in Baltimore. We visited three ships and a submarine in the harbor. But, the highlight of the day was when a Mexican sailing ship pulled into dock with all the sailors in their white military uniforms. The officers had chests full of medals and you could see their national pride.

What was a Major Cause of Civil War Confederate States Downfall? (5/7/08)
The Confederate Congress responds to counterfeiting of its currency: Secretary Menninger, Secretary of Treasury of the Confederate States, was able to obtain funding in 1862 for a small detective force to track down counterfeiters. This force was placed under the supervision of Colonel G.W. Lee, Provost Marshal and military post commander in Atlanta.
