New Coins Mark 2008 Biejing Olympics (3/26/08)
 Coin collectors will be able to acquire proof gold and silver commemorative coins issued by the China Mint in honor of the games August 8-24. It is a complete proof 18-coin set issued in three series, featuring six gold coins that are each one-third troy ounce and 12 silver coins that are each 1 troy ounce.

Errors in the State Quarters are Worth Lots of Money (3/23/08)
 I have always liked coin collecting. When I was a kid, there was not a lot to do in the tiny town I grew up in. I think there were 100 people in town, when everyone was home on Sunday. One of the things we would do, is get our parents to take us to the neighboring town, where there was a bank, to get rolls of coins from the tellers, to search through.

 A monumental Polish gold 100 ducats coin struck nearly 400 years ago has sold for $1.38 million at an auction by Stack’s in New York City. The price set a record for a world coin.

Cuban 1897 Contribution Issue (2/29/08)
 The Junta Or Delegation of the Cuban Revolutionary Party established in New York City in 1892 decided to issue coins besides bonds and stamps. In 1897 the designs were created by Philip Martiny in conjunction with the Gorham Manufacturing Company. Because of the urgency the words “un peso” were replaced by “souvenir” as patents were being awaited.

 At the onset of the Civil War, US pennies were scarce and hoarded as well as metal shortages. People did not like the fractional paper currency, consequently copper tokens were made by private individuals and companies.
