ORLANDO, Fla. – More than 300 original and reprographic works of art by some of the most prominent names in fine art (like Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Joan Miro and Marc Chagall) and contemporary art (like Peter Max, LeRoy Neiman, Charles Fazzino and Nicola Simbari) will be sold at a live and Internet spring auction by Baterbys Art Auction Gallery.

The Saturday, May 29 sale will be conducted at Baterbys’ spacious Pointe Orlando gallery, located at 9101 International Drive (Suite 1008) in Orlando. The auction will begin promptly at 6 p.m., with previews scheduled for 5-6 p.m. Online bidding will be facilitated by LiveAuctioneers.com and iCollector.com. Telephone and absentee bids will also be accepted. It is important to note, too, that unlike many other auctions, this one will have no buyer’s premium.

The entire auctioneers’ premium for the sales will be donated to Give Kids the World, based in Kissimmee, Fla. The charity organization operates a 70-acre resort-style village specifically designed for children with special needs. Entertainment attractions, whimsical venues and fun are provided for kids in need, in the over 100 villa accommodations.

“Our spring auction is all about the prolific use of bold colors and the elaborate portrayal of places where people spend leisure time and images ease the mind,” said John Magpantay of Baterbys Auction Gallery. “It’s about that time of year when things bloom in full. It’s also the perfect time to change the art on your walls. A new season calls for fresh and spritely new art.”

Following are some anticipated highlights of the auction, with high and low estimates.

Reprint of an original etching by Rembrandt van Rijn (circa 1634), signed by the Dutch master.

Not many auctions can boast a work by Rembrandt, but Baterbys has actually secured several signed reprints of original etchings by the Dutch master. One work, titled “Christ and the Woman of Samaria, Among Ruins” (circa 1634), measures 6 inches by 5 inches and should bring $3,000-$4,000. The piece was signed in the etching plate by Rembrandt, who lived 1606-1669.

Original oil on canvas work by German artist Alfred Gockel (b. 1952), titled “Caribbean Blue.”

An original oil on canvas by the German artist Alfred Gockel (b. 1952), titled “Caribbean Blue,” is estimated to hit $8,000-$9,000. The work is sizable, 59 inches by 39 inches, and signed by the artist. Gockel had his first artwork released by a German publisher at age 8. Today, he owns his own publishing firm and he publishes his own prints and limited-edition silk screens.

Stylized rendering of “Goofy” by pop art icon Peter Max, from the artist's “Disney Suite” (1994).

The iconic pop artist Peter Max (b. 1937) will be well-represented in this auction, with two signed serigraphs on paper expected to do particularly well. Both are from the artist’s Disney Suite. One depicts Donald Duck and the other Goofy. Both measure 15 ¾ inches by 13 ¾ inches and both are from limited editions of 500 prints. They each carry estimates of $3,000-$4,000.

Hand-embellished giclee on canvas by Pino (Giuseppe Dangelico), titled “Precious Moments.”

Pino (born Giuseppe Dangelico) is an Italian artist noted for his exceptional ability to capture the movements and expressions of his subjects. He does this superbly in the hand embellished giclee on canvas work titled “Precious Moments” (est. $4,500-$5,000). The signed giclee is one of only 95 copies produced and will suit a wall nicely at 36 inches by 48 inches.

Fernando de Jesus Oliveira (b. 1946), the artist simply called “Ferjo,” was born in Brazil but has become one of the most compelling artists on the American scene today. His extensive studies culminated in surrealistic, lyric interpretations of famous artistic motifs. Ferjo’s 16-inch by 16-inch original oil on canvas titled “Picasso’s Unwritten Melody” should bring $4,000-$4,500.

Original acrylic on canvas painting by Jackie Holland Berkley, titled “Portside #15” (circa 2005).

Mississippi-born artist Jackie Holland Berkley’s original acrylic on canvas, done circa 2006 and titled “Portside #15,” is expected to cross the block at $2,000-$2,500. The signed work measures 30 inches by 30 inches. Berkley’s work has been exhibited at many galleries and in the corporate offices of Disney, Exxon, Universal Studios, Federal Express and the Ritz-Carlton.

Baterbys offers its clients something unique in the industry: a lifetime money-back guarantee of authenticity for each work of art it sells. This is important to buyers looking to build a collection, since provenance is everything. Baterbys believes that gaining a buyer’s trust is key to ensuring they will become repeat customers.
ORLANDO, Fla. – In a benefit for United Cerebral Palsy of Central Florida, more than 300 original and reprographic works of art by some of the greatest and most recognizable names in 20th century fine art—Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali, among others, and contemporary art by artists like Peter Max and Nicola Simbari—will be sold at a live and Internet auction scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010.

The auction will be facilitated and conducted by Baterbys Art Auction Gallery at its galleries in Orlando and Delray Beach. The entire auctioneers’ premium will be donated to UCP of Central Fla., an organization serving children with disabilities and developmental delays in the Orlando area.

A preview will precede the auction, from 5-6 p.m. featuring free cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, provided by a local Cuban restaurant, creating a festive atmosphere that bidders will enjoy as they peruse artworks spanning a range of themes, to include city scenes, Biblical and religious, rural life, abstract and realist. Online bidding will be facilitated by LiveAuctioneers.com and iCollector.com.

It is the first auction of the year for Baterbys—named Best Art Gallery in Orlando for 2009 by Orlando Style Magazine and SneakySunday.com (a website dedicated to local arts and entertainment). Bidders will have the opportunity to win free works of art and other giveaways during spontaneous raffles throughout the auction. Everyone will receive a free print valued at $100 just for attending.

Between 1951 and 1960, Salvador Dali created 101 watercolor drawings to interpret “The Divine Comedy,” a poem by Dante Alighieri (1265-1321). Dali’s “Divine Comedy” series (circa 1960) will be sold Feb. 27 and comprises six signed, framed prints. All are in excellent condition. Each is an original wood engraving in color on Rives paper (about 10 inches by 7 inches) and signed in the block by Dali. Sold will be the “Paternoster Suite” (est. $700-$800 ea.) and the “Aaliyah Suite” (est. $3,000-$4,000 ea.).

An original signed and dated lithograph by Pablo Picasso (1964), titled “Pour Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler,” will be up for bid.

Several pieces from various suites by Pablo Picasso (Spanish/French, 1881-1973) will also be sold. Picasso, probably best known for his Cubist paintings and printmaking, singlehandedly revolutionized Western art. He was born in Spain and lived there until age 19, when he moved to Paris to study the Old Masters and Classical sculpture. Baterbys has featured his works in previous auctions.

Other names from 20th century fine art will include Joan Miro and, among others, Marc Chagall. Miro (Spanish, 1893-1893) was born in Barcelona and earned international acclaim for his abstract, curvilinear design paintings, collages and murals. Miro despised conventional painting methods and once declared an “assassination of painting.” His work has been featured in past Baterbys sales, too.

An original color lithograph by Marc Chagall (circa 1963), titled “The Red Angel” (13 in. by 9.5 in.), will go under the gavel.

Several pieces from suites by Chagall (Russian/French, 1887-1985) are sure to get paddles wagging. The artist is best known for his village peasant theme paintings. Chagall was born Moishe Shagal and adopted the French spelling of his name when he became a member of the Ecole de Paris. He was a shrewd observer of the contemporary scene and had great sympathy for human suffering.

Original oil paintings and hand-embellished giclee prints by the supremely gifted artist Elena Bond will also be offered, as will works by Guillaume Azoulay (Calif., b. 1949) and Isaac Maimon (Israeli, b. 1951). Azoulay’s “Le Lion” (a 26 inch by 17 inch gicleee on canvas, 2009, #28 of 300, with the title and year in gold pen, lower left) is a wonderful display of cool colors, in excellent condition.

<img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-2488945 " title="Bond" src="http://www.worthpoint.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/Bond-150x150.jpg" alt="An original, signed oil on canvas by Elena Bond, done in 2009, titled “Ballerina Dream” (36 in. by 36 in.) will be up for auction.
Isaac Maimon is renowned for his iconic paintings of Parisian café society. The work to be sold—“La Vie Francais”—is a surprising mix of colors, created with masterful lines and inspired strokes on a serigraph on paper (framed at 29 inches by 35 inches, and hand-signed in pencil, lower right, from an edition of just 125). The piece portrays the women of Paris as cultured, stylish, sensual and beautiful.

Peter Max’s work is a protean display of unabashed freedom. His paintings are visual time machines that transport viewers to the heydays of the Beatles, Woodstock and Jimi Hendrix. But some of his work resembles modern concepts, such as the mixed media on paper piece “Liberty and Justice For All,” which will be offered, along with six original mixed media interpretations of Lady Liberty.

Nicola Simbari (It., b. 1929) effortlessly launched his painting career while still in his 20s, with a one-man show in London. His brilliant, impressionistic style and vivid, dramatic interpretations of the Mediterranean have established Simbari as one of today’s most sought after artists. Several of his works will be included in the Baterbys Feb. 27 sale. All will be serigraphs, executed around 1990.

Baterbys offers its clients something that is unique in the industry: a lifetime money-back guarantee of authenticity for each work of art it sells. This is important to buyers looking to build a collection of art, since provenance is everything. It is Baterbys’ philosophy that gaining a buyer’s trust is key to ensuring they will become repeat customers. No other auction house offers such a guarantee.

ORLANDO, Fla. – More than 300 original and reproduction works of art by some of the greatest names in 20th century fine art—Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Joan Miro, Pierre Bonnard and others—will be sold alongside contemporary names like Peter Max, LeRoy Neiman, Nicola Simbari and Gary Benfield at a live and Internet auction, and the entire auctioneer’s premium will be donated to Hope and Help Center of Central Florida, an AIDS/HIV awareness organization based in Winter Park.

The event is slated for Saturday, Nov. 7 and will be facilitated by Baterbys Art Auction Gallery. For online bidding information, visit the Baterbys Web site. The entire auctioneer’s premium will be donated to Hope and Help Center of Central Florida, an AIDS/HIV awareness organization based in Winter Park.

Intertested bidders will be treated to artwork spanning a broad range of themes, to include city scenes, Biblical/religious, rural life, Abstract and Realist. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be provided by Cuba Libre Rum Bar & Restaurant. There will also be enlightening art lectures and spontaneous raffles.

Mention of the name Salvador Dali (known as the most “celebritized” artist) often evokes soft watches and surrealist dream imagery. But later in life, Dali turned to more traditional subjects, in particular those involving biblical and historical references. His entire “Aliyah Suite” is an example of this and will be auctioned on Nov. 7, along with other limited-edition works (like the “Divine Comedy” series).

Dali’s “Aliyah Suite” was executed in 1968. Each image in the 25-print series is an original lithograph (d’Arche Vellum), about 20 inches by 15 inches each, and signed lower right in pencil and numbered of 250 lower left. All are in excellent condition. The “Divine Comedy” series (circa 1960) comprises six signed, framed prints, with an image area of 13 inches by 10 ½ inches.

Gary Benfield (Br., b. 1965) is best known for his romanticized female figure paintings and equestrian renderings. Offered Nov. 7 will be a six-work series of serigraphs on wove paper, executed between 2003-2007. Each serigraph is signed in gold pen in a limited-edition series (750). The six titles include “Escapade II,” “Golden Mask,” “Renaissance,” “Heavenly Dance,” “Day Dreaming” and “Love Secrets.”

Original oil paintings and hand-embellished giclee prints by the supremely gifted artist Elena Bond will also be sold. The giclees include “Strolling Harbor Side” edition of 95, 24 inches by 40 inches; “Love Gondolier” edition of 95, 36 inches by 18 inches); “Sand and Surf” edition of 95, 32 inches by 32 inches; and “City Reflections” edition of 95, 19 inches by 60 inches. All the giclees are artist-signed and in excellent condition.

The oil on canvas paintings by Bond include “The Waters of Venice,” “Early Morning in Venice,” “Still in Mediterranean Waters,” “La Trattoria, Hand and Hand,” “Night in the Keys,” “Arch and Lake, Artists Café,” “Summer Manhattan Style,” “After Hours Chill” and “Le Station de Metro.” The works range in size from 16 inches by 12 inches to 20 inches by 60 inches. All are signed and in excellent condition.

Nicola Simbari (It., b. 1929) effortlessly launched his painting career while still in his 20s with a one-man show in London. After that, he was commissioned to paint murals for the Italian Pavilion at the 1958 World’s Fair in Brussels. His brilliant, impressionistic style and vivid, dramatic and energized interpretations of the Mediterranean have established Simbari as one of today’s most sought after artists.

Three of his works will be included in the Baterbys Nov. 7 auction. All three are serigraphs, done around 1990. They include: “Piazzo Del Duomo” (36 ¼ inches by 33 inches, hand-signed lower right, hand-numbered lower left); “White Dress” (31 inches by 36 inches, hand signed lower right, hand-numbered lower left); and “El Parasol” (35 inches by 26 ¾ inches, hand-signed and hand-numbered).

Baterbys holds quarterly live and Internet auctions, all of which benefit non-profit organizations that provide developmental and holistic programs for children with life-threatening illnesses. Baterbys has raised substantial funds for groups such as Threshhold Center for Autism and Give Kids the World.
