1/1 CAV Blackhawks Vietnam Yearbook from 71-72. The book includes F Troop of 17 th Cav which must have been attached to 1/1. Looks like this is when the squadron was attached to the 196 th INF Brigade. They are based in Camp Faulkner, Vietnam. Over 100 crisp glossy pages of black & white photos in this awesome look into cavalry life in Vietnam. Pictures include infantry, ACAVs, Sheridan Tanks, Cobras, LOH, UH-1s, and some bad ass looking weapon system with a spot light and caption that reads âeoeeyes & talons of a nighthawkâe âe" I have no idea what it is, but I want one! Every soldier in the squadron is pictured Most are in slant-pocket greens or coveralls or flight suits but a few are in woodland camouflage âe" I had no idea they had this back then (itâe(tm)s US woodland, not tiger stripe). I zoomed in on the photos of a few to remind everyone of the great hair styles and mustaches of the âe~70s! Several soldiers are pictured in front of the confederate flag. You can see lots of troop and squadron patches throughout the book. Notice SGT Gacexâe(tm)s plastic spoon in his pocket. If you were in this unit or at Camp Camp Faulkner during this time your picture is in this book at least once!
