October 17, 1984 - Vancouver Canucks at Pittsburgh Penguins Official Game Program Mario Lemieux's 1st Home Game at Pittsburgh's Civic ArenaMario Lemieux's 1st Fight in the National Hockey League vs. Gary Lupul of the Canucks Up for auction is a very rare and hard to find program from Mario Lemieux's debut at Pittsburgh's Civic Arena during his rookie season in 1984-85. The Pittsburgh Penguins hosted the Vancouver Canucks and in true Lemieux form, Le Magnifique got on the scoresheet on his first shift of the game assisting on Doug Shedden's power-play goal just 18 seconds into the game. Just 2:31 into the first period, Lemieux sent the crowd into a frenzy as he dropped the gloves for the first time in his NHL career against Gary Lupul.The Penguins went on to defeat the Canucks 4-3 in what was then the largest opening weeknight crowd in Pittsburgh Penguins history before a crowd of 15,741. Shedden, Bruce Crowder, and Warren Young (2) scored for Pittsburgh while Doug Halward, Tony Tanti, and Gary Lupul scored for Vancouver. Denis Herron made 42 saves in goal for the Penguins while John Garrett was replaced by Richard Brodeur in the first period in net for Vancouver.
