A Skateboard deck is a combination of thin sheets of wood(plys) pressed together with glue in between the layers to hold it all together. Since the quality of the wood, glue, and the process are all very important. Un-fortunately none of these can be determined once the deck is finished. Simply put, you can't judge a book by its cover. Buyer's must be aware that some E-Bay sellers offer decks that use Chinese maple, or birch plies hidden in between Canadian maple to reduce the cost. Blemished, decks considered 2nds and even 3rds are often hidden by simply dipping the deck into paint, and then claiming it's 1st quality and the best or strongest decks on the market.Decks have quality levels because cost of the materials.
