GORGEOUS QUEEN CONCH! (Strombus gigas) Did you know that Queen Conchs are a protected species in Florida? Tfore, the shells can only be taken when the animal is gone and if the empty shell is not on a protected reef. This makes getting speciman shells very difficult since one seldom finds the operculum. Within days of the shell becoming empty, it becomes a home for ANY WATER INHABITANT looking for a place to live such as Brittle Stars, Fireworms, Shrimp, etc. Also, the wonderful interior begins to erode. Finding a "PERFECT" QC is a matter of luck and timing. Usually, if I find them in pristine condition, it is because they have just been cleaned out by a Horse Conch. Unfortunately, I HAVE FOUND PLENTY OF LIVE QUEEN CONCH this summer, but no HC. Until last week! I found 3 cleaned out QC's with 2 HC's nearby. I did not take the HC because I want them to continue cleaning QC's for ME! This Queen Conch was found while I was snorkeling in the Atlantic Ocean in about 6-8 foot of water. It had been cleaned out by a predator recently and was still in great shape. Even though the conch animal appeared gone, I still cleaned the shell thoroughly in bleach and water. Notice the great color even after sitting in bleach. I also have to use dental tools to pick off the outside calcium buildup. I enjoy the process and seeing the perfection of a shell emerge. However, it is a long task. Okay, to specifics. This gorgeous Queen Conch weighs about 3 pounds. It is approximately 10" long with a face width of about 7 1/2". The inside is coral going to a creamy-apricot color on the lip and has a wonderful sheen to it. The outside color is darker than usual, more caramel with some creamy-apricot shading. It still has some of its skin attached, but that will eventually drop off as it dries out. T is only a small amount of chipping on the lip and erosion on the knobs. The apex is beautiful. Remember that this shell came from a rough marine environment. Please study the pictures carefully. This is the shell you will receive. If you need more pictures or have questions, please ask. The bidding on this shell begins at $21.95. Shipping and handling (ebay, paypal, credit cards, boxes, etc.)is $14.95 via FedEx ground with $100 of insurance included. If you are wanting this shipped to Alaska or Hawaii, please check with me before bidding to find out S&H charges. I DO NOT SHIP OUT OF THE U.S PAYMENT IS BY PAYPAL ONLY. PAYMENT BY PAYPAL IS DUE WITHIN 72 HOURS (3 DAYS) FROM AUCTION END. IF I HAVE NOT RECEIVED PAYMENT WITHIN 72 HOURS, YOU WILL BE REPORTED TO EBAY FOR NONPAYMENT AND I WILL RELIST THE ITEM.
