I do not know how many stamps there are in this box, other than to say that there are TENS of thousands in here. All I can do is talk in terms of weight: there are actually MORE than ten pounds of off-paper old stamps in this lot! I've been accumulating less expensive duplicates for the last twenty years, just throwing them into a box, and waiting to see what would happen. Well, it finally happened: they started overflowing onto the floor of the stamp closet. So, this week I dumped them into a Priority Mail "Mailing Box" (measuring 12"x12"8 1/2"--almost 3/4 of a cubic foot). They filled it full, but they have settled a bit so they fill about 7.5". The post office says the parcel weighs 175.6 ounces, almost eleven pounds (including the mailing box, so the weight of just the stamps themselves is a bit over ten pounds.

There is no major duplication in here, nor are there many really new stamps. I collect stamps up to 1950 only, so I don't buy much of the newer stuff at all. I would be very surprised if even 10% of the stamps in here were from after 1960. You won't find many Iron Curtain, Sand Dune, Arab, or "Newly Independent" or other junk countries. There are very few, if any, glassines in here to add to the weight. There are no CTO sheets. Generally speaking--this box is as free of junk, and as full of old material as you are ever going to find anywhere.

As a truth in advertising measure: over the years I have sorted out most of the stamps that catalog 50 cents and above, so what you have here are almost exclusively stamps that catalog 20 to 45 cents. There are a few cataloging over a dollar, but most of those have some degree of damage about them.

If you have nothing else to do for the next three months, and if you like old stamps, this is the lot for you!
