This is a nearly complete reassembled set typical of the packages sold in drugstores and dime-stores back in the '70s. There are two reasons why this particular dinosaur set is so highly sought by collectors now:1) They're just weird. Although billed on the packaging as dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures, few of them resemble anything that ever walked on this Earth save in the imagination of fantasy writers and sci-fi filmmakers. They are more reminiscent of the strange Japanese kaiju and yokai of the era.2) This led to their becoming relevant in a way that no one could have ever guessed: some of them inspired a game designer by the name of Gary Gygax to create monsters based on them...monsters that appeared in his first Monster Manual for the game Dungeons & Dragons .
