"RARE" ANTIQUE GEISHA RICE PAPER UMBRELLA Up for Auction is this "FIND OF A LIFETIME". I recently purchased this antique rice paper Geisha umbrella from an estate, the seller indicated it had been in her family for OVER 100 years. After extensive research, I have only found one other one of this size that was comparable, and could be this ones twin ( except for the picture painted on it). It is listed on Go for $350.00 with age given as 18th century dated 1720-1740. I cannot verify that mine would be that old or of the same value, but compared side by side they appear exactly the same in craftsmanship and construction, even in the minor turning of the antique rice paper. I am not an Oriental antiquary or authority nor do I claim to be one, but this is what my research has found. This umbrella measures 42" across when fully opened and 29" long. The handle and all of the bamboo rods, interior bamboo frame, interior string work and black cotton cover on the tip are in Mint Working Condition with no disrepair. However, t are several places in the rice paper w it has turned (see pics), although this only lends to it's incomparable antiquated beauty. The art work is of finely detailed birds and flowers on a vine. It is also signed (see pics) but I am unable to translate. For anyone who appreciates fine art and rare antiques this is quite read more
