is an old side saddle find--I purchased it from a fellow that took it all apart--cleaned the leather-- then had trouble putting it back together--The maker J. B. Congle is listed as being in business from 1868-1882--so it is a rare maker marked saddle from Oregon.....over 100 yrs. old-- First one by this maker I have ever seen and I have been dealing in saddles for 30 yrs.....so I would consider it quite rare. The rigging and rawhide covered tree appear to be in great shape--the leather on seat has been patched--glued-- and nailed down--the stirrup is very petite and in good condition--the huge skirt is in fair condition and somewhat pliable and supple--other parts of the leather are cracked and quite fragile--so I would consider this to be a decorator rather than to be used. The off side bar or railing is rawhide covered--skirt on near side at longest part is 30 in. --the seat --when measured from the horn area to back is 16 in. stirrup is 3-1/2 wide--covered--The mark reads "J. B. Congle Portland OGN"---thanks for looking
