I am listing several Figures that are early or mid 19th Century Staffordshire or late 18th Century Derby. Most have been in a large collection for many years, others on my living room mantle! Some have factory identification. Most have typical Condition Issues, which are Noted below. DESCRIPTION A mid 19th Century Statue or Figural Group made in Staffordshire, England. The title of the piece, FORTUNE TELLER, is moulded on the base and painted black. Depicted are 3 characters under a Leafy Bower, which is a Grape Arbour. On left is the Fortune Teller, consulting with a Country Woman who carries her Young Girl. She is making payment for the revelations of the Gypsy. A popular image, this example is well done in full color. Clothing detail is delightful! T are bits of Extruded Clay decorating the Arbor. Like most figures of this type, this has a "flat back" that is unpainted. A Charming and Highly Collectible Figurine in Excellent Condition. IDENTIFICATION A small hand painted symbol on the bottom (see photo) that is probably an error but may be a workman's mark DIMENSIONS Base Measurements: 6 1/2" x 2 5/8" Height: 11 1/2" CONDITION Excellent for this Genre! No damage cracks or chips; no repairs. 2 stress cracks on bottom, obviously production flaws. Tip of Fortune Teller's nose is flawed and overpainted. A few minor flakes of enemel.
