Payment | Shipping | Policies 11" 200 Year Old Creche Figure w/ Bagpipes MUST C $1NR 11" All Original NEAPOLITAN CRECHE MAN with a bagpipe circa 1780-1800 WOW! (Perfect Head) is a really wonderful piece of history! He has a wonderfully fine sculpted head from terracotta and painted expertly by a top master painter with particular attention to his open mouth showing upper teeth, and his wonderfully expressive face. His eyes are inset glass and look very realistic set off by his wonderful furrowed brow, balding head and protruding ears. He is in a standing position with his dramatic hands expressively posed and holding his original parchment skin bag with three wooden pipes, showing long bony fingers. His wonderfully modeled feet are clad in molded brown shoes with red bows and creased green stockings. His body is rag or flax wrapped around wire, with hand carved wooden arms and terra cotta legs. He is dressed in his elaborate costume consisting of a long red silk short pants with metallic trim, green silk jacket with long sleeves also edged and trimmed in metallic lace, cream silk shirt with with metallic trim and casement buttons. T is serious wear to the jacket and trousers. MARKS : NONE CONDITION: Fabulous! A truly outstanding and extraordinary example of exquisite Neapolitan craftsmanship! The head is perfect save for some dust and minor paint rubs. The hands typically show more wear with one being perfect and the other with two broken off fingers. The legs are intact and beautifully detailed but showing some age soil and wear. I have seen similar creche figures sell for as much as $1500, but I am starting him off at $1.
