11" Eskimo Inuit Soapstone Carving - Inuit Kayak Hunter

Black Soapstone & Bone - Artist Signed

"Alaskan Native Handicraft"

Fine 11" long stylized carving of an Inuit seal hunter in his kayak, by a master Inuit carver - the hunter has a carved bone paddle, a bone and wood harpoon, and a soapstone seal bladder float. The kayak has a carved out area in which to place the hunter in the cockpit.

The quality of the carving is exceptional and comes with a soapstone plinth for display! The striking black soapstone adds to the beauty of the piece.

The piece is signed in Inuktitutand, and dated to1997. Weighs about 4 1/2 pounds.

Size of the kayak is 11" long x 3 1/4" wide - it is 4 1/2" tall including the hunter but without the plinth - condition is excellent.

A significant find that will make a statement in any serious collection of Native American sculpture!
