11 Limoges Gilt & Painted Porcelain Bird Plates, 20th C Description: Set: 11 Limoges Gilt & Polychrome Decorated Ornithological Bird Porcelain Service Plates Retailed by Ovington Bros. Co., New York, 20th C. The plates feature scalloped Rococo style circular rims and are colorfully decorated with a large bird in a field amidst trees and foliage on a white ground. The base of each plate is marked with stamped red retailer's mark: "OVINGTON BROS. & CO. NEW YORK", some plates are additionally marked in green: "LIMOGES FRANCE". Dimensions: Each: 9-1/4" Diameter, 1-3/8" Deep. Total Weight: 11.75lbs. Condition: Four plates have chips to the rim (four chips measure 3/8", 3/8", 5/8" and 1-3/16" long and three of the chips lead into small hairline cracks). The scalloped edge of another plate has been ground down and overpainted with gold paint (now considerably worn). One additional plate has a small hairline crack to the rim (not very noticeable). The remaining five plates have no cracks or chips. T is some rubbing/wear and light surface scratching to the surface of each plate. Otherwise, the plates are in good condition.
