Absolutely beautiful set of 11 plates from Royal Copenhagen Porcelain. These plates are from 1975. They were the first ever collector plates commissioned by the Franklin Mint. They were sold by invitation only to already established members of The Franklin Mint Collector's Club. They were never made available to the general public. The Collector Club members were only allowed to buy one set. Franklin Mint chose Royal Copenhagen to make this very special set because they are one of the finest porcelain manufacturers in the world. They make the most expensive set of china in the world, Flora Danica. These plates have elaborate hand applied real 24 kt gold borders, which are done by the master craftsmen who also make the hand applied gold borders on the Flora Danica. These plates were commissioned in honor of the Hans Christian Andersen Centennial. Each plate represents one of his beloved fairytale classics. This was the only set of Hans Christian Andersen plates made by Royal Copenhagen for the Centennial. The artwork on the plates was designed by well known British artist, Pauline Ellison. She was chosen because of her well established artwork using children, fairies and other childlike subjects. Each plate comes in its original box with its original plate stand. All the plates contain a booklet which gives a synopsis of the story
