In this listing we are offering eleven issues of Famous Fantastic Mysteries. Pages are tanned and are quite solid and sound and not brittle. Information on each of the issues in this listing is as follows: Famous Fantastic Mysteries, March 1944, Vol. V, No. 6. Original price was 25¢. This issue measures 9 3/8 inches by 6 7/8 inches. Cover and illustrations by Lawrence. The cover illustration shows a pair of gigantic hands, one of which holds the figure of a white robed man who is brandishing a gun which he holds by the barrel. In the foreground are other figures that are also small relative to the size of the gigantic hands. One of the figures is a white haired bearded man, possibly a wizard?, in a blue robe that is embellished with images of the moon and stars. Another figure appears to be a man in eighteenth century styled clothing. He holds a smoldering bomb in one hand. Another bearded man appears to be a wizard wearing a robe on which there are animals such as fish and parrots. On the far right is a man who is wearing plaid pants and a white shirt and who wields a sword.The last interior page is #146. Pages are all present.This issue has numerous flaws. The most serious ones are mentioned as follows: The cover is somewhat larger than the interior pages so that the front cover overlaps the inside pages at the top and the back cover overlaps the pages at the top and side. Consequently, the top edges of the front cover and back cover are missing a section along most of the top edge where the paper was subjected to wear and broke away. The sections that are missing would measure about 3/16 inch by 4 1/4 inches on the front top edge and 3/16 inches by 4 1/2 inches on the back top edge. The outside long edge of the back cover overlaps the inside pages so that it bends over the inside pages. That edge has several small breaks and some nicks out of the edge. The top back corner is chipped off and there is a puncture in the back cover near the spine at about the midpoint. The paper of the spine shows some wrinkling, one tight break and some small fragments missing at the upper and lower edge. The interior pages were misaligned in the making so some stick out more than others. This has resulted in some defects in the long edges of pages 19 to 30 which stick out from the rest. The long edges of those pages have some fraying, additional browning, and some chips off of the edge.The front cover shows light soiling and the back cover shows medium soiling.The following stories are in this issue: "The Man Who Was Thursday-A Nightmare" (Book length novel) by G. K. Chesterton "The Ghost Pirates" (Book length novel) by William Hope Hodgson Famous Fantastic Mysteries, June 1944, Vol. VI, No. 1. Original price was 25¢. This issue measures 8 7/8 inches by 6 5/8 inches. Cover by Lawrence. The cover shows a gigantic winged dragon looming over a plane that sits on the ground at the edge of a cliff. Next to the plane are a man and woman who look up at the dragon. It is unclear whether they feel threatened or are puzzled about what the dragon is about to do. The man holds a tiny knife. The woman gestures towards the dragon.The last interior page is numbered 130. Pages are all present.This issue has some major flaws. The bottom and top corners of the front cover and pages up through page 70 have been munched by some unknown critter with the most damage being at the front and the least at page 70. The damage is worst in the pages up through page 42. The missing pieces from the bottom corners measure, at worst, up to 1 3/4 inches wide by 2 3/4 inches tall. As the munching continued through the pages, the missing pieces get smaller. In the topmost corner of the cover and the pages behind the cover up through page 70 the measurement of the largest pieces missing is 1 inch tall by 2 1/8 inches wide. The pages that are the innermost received the least damage. There is a 5/8 inch tear and separation from the front cover at the bottom of the spine.
