12 Antique Saint Louis Trianon Green Cut Clear Goblets
Description: This auction is for an important estate sale find, a set of 12 Continental water goblets in cased green cut to clear glass. This is the classic Trianon pattern by Cristallerie de Saint Louis of France. The glasses are not marked (St. Louis often used a paper label). The goblets are a fine quality heavy lead glass with a distinctive ring. St. Louis has produced the Trianon pattern since 1830. We have not found a definitive reference source stating when this scarce emerald green cut to clear color was produced. Our estimate it that is was produced concurrently with the American Brilliant Glass period, beginning in the 1870s and extending into the 1920s, although they could possibly be older. The Saint Louis Glassworks is one of three major Continental European glassworks, along with Baccarat and Val St. Lambert. Saint Louis has been crafting the finest quality of crystal since 1586. The factory made many technical and ornamental innovations during the 19th century, which are still being implemented today. For over four centuries, Saint Louis has continued to hand blow every piece that it produces. The colored cut to clear pieces were always scarce and expensive, and finding an original set of 12 antique colored goblets intact is quite an unusual find. Four glasses have small chips on the upper rims, we would recommend having these smoothed out by a qualified glass restorer. Otherwise, t are no cracks or chips. Provenance: These were acquired from a local estate sale with many fine antique items. The family history on this set is that they were bought back from the European Theater at the end of World War II by a family member who served as a Spitfire pilot with the Royal Canadian Air Force.
