Up for bid is an antique broad axe stamped "Blood's Champion crucible steel" Isaiah Blood established a scythe and axe manufactory in 1824, in Ballston, NY. He died in 1870. The axe head is 12 inches at the cutting blade. 8 1/2 inches from the blade to the back. The head is loose on the handle, will move about an inch. There is rust and light pitting. Good condition for an axe of this age. The cutting edge is in good condition, with a couple small nicks. The back has been hammered on and has just a little battering just above the stamp mark. About 37 inches overall length. A genuine rare piece of American history.
