12" Early Neopolitan Older Gentleman Creche Figure - Character Face & Glass Eyes
Up for auction is a fascinating unusual early 12" older gentleman creche figure with a wonderful character face, glass eyes and an opened mouth with molded teeth, and tongue. This gentleman has a polychromed head, forearms, hands, forelegs and boots. His head is made from terra cotta and his forearms, hands, legs and boots are made of wood. As you can see in the photos, this gentleman creche figure has an exquisitely hand carved character face with brown glass eyes, an opened mouth with molded teeth and tongue - he even has a mole on his forehead and veins showing. This creche figure has a hemp-covered armatured body. His forearms and hands are intricately and delicately carved and are complete. He also has beautifully carved lower legs and boots. He is dressed in gold knickers with a gold braiding along the bottom and navy blue embroidered design on the leg, a brown silk brocade shirt with the same gold trim around the v neck; a lavender silk brocade jacket with matching gold trimming; and a red silk-lined suede hat with gold trim and stitching around the brim. He has midnight blue polychromed stockings and black boots that are polychromed black. The bottoms of the heels of his boots have a hole for his original stand. As shown in the photographs, this fascinating gentleman is complete with no chips or missing fingers, etc. - he does have paintwear - mostly on his hands. His clothing does have wear, fading, and some tattering. This character creche gentleman figure is truly amazing with a fascinating character face with an open mouth. He is odor free and from a smoke free home. The stand that this figure is using in the photographs is included in this auction.
