Yellow ware canning jars were used from around 1840 to the late 1800s and were quickly replaced with glass mason jars. There are dozens of different molded forms of canning jars. This is the first, and smaller, of two jars with 12 sides. This jar is measures 6 1/2” in height by 3 1/2” wide across the top. A photo of this canning jar can be found on page 80 in Lisa McAllister's Book I, Collector's Guide to Yellow Ware. Most jars have some damage from use, this is in mint condition with no molding flaws. Canning jars make nice additions to any yellow ware collection and are e specially attractive in groups.
