SIGNATURE: I couldn't find a signature, but it could be hiding underneath the bottom wear scratches. PATTERN NAME AND REFERENCES: My books call this cutting pattern several different names and I'm not sure which is correct since none are actual company catalog pictures. The names given include Rose, White Rose, Rose Combination, and Combination Rose. Sometimes t is just rose cutting on these pieces and others like mine have geometric cutting added. The clearest pattern reference that I found is a covered butter dish on page 261 of Revi's book Encyclopedia Of American Cut & Engraved Glass 2000 edition. I have included a picture of this for comparison. Page 260 of this book has 2 more examples of this cutting and the 1916 patent drawing for it. I also included a group picture that has a vase that matches mine from page 213 of the book The Glass Industry In Wayne County, Pennsylvania by Barbe & Reed. If you look closely you can see the same crosshatched button cane cutting on it as mine. AGE: It was probably made in 1916 or sometime slightly after that. BLACK LIGHT TEST RESULTS: Confirms American Brilliant Period (approximately 1876-1916), but could have been made later. MEASUREMENTS: 12-1/8" high, 6-3/8" diagonally across the top, and the lower sides are 3-5/8" wide. WEIGHT / RING: It weighs a hefty 5.1 pounds and has a good ring when tapped. BLANK / GLASS CLARITY: Because of its shape this is surely some type of mold produced blank. T are no ripples on the interior that indicate it is a figured type blank. The glass is bright and clear. CUTTING DETAILS: The main miters have good depth and the overall precision is very good. POLISHING QUALITY: The roses and buds are purposely unpolished to provide a nice contrast. Otherwise the finish looks and feels crisp, but to be picky I'll mention a few watery spots on the side uncut areas left by the acid polishing process that was typically used on pieces like this. CONDITION REPORT (ALWAYS VERY PICKY): The top rim looks perfect to me. Hiding in the lower side cane cutting is one shallow flake that is 3/16" wide. Otherwise the side areas look near perfect with just one pencil point sized nick on the bottom edge. The bottom looks very good and has what I would call moderate wear on the high spots. The interior is clean with no sickness or residue. FINAL COMMENTS: The square shaped blank of this vase is something that you don't see often. The quality cutting looks very good on the 4 flat panels. The new owner should be very pleased with this hard to find piece. BIDDING FORMAT: T is no reserve with a $9 starting price. This is my favorite way to sell even high-priced items. I will never under any conditions end my auctions early to sell to an anxious buyer requesting a buy it now. SHIPPING & INSURANCE: A flat rate for both shipping and insurance combined by USPS Priority Mail to anyw in the U.S.A. will be $12. I don't ship my cut glass outside of the U.S.A. AFTER SALE CHECKOUT: I DO NOT USE EBAY'S CHECKOUT. You will get an automatic email from me shortly after the auctions end. At the bottom is a link to a secure Vendio Checkout form. It will be much easier for both of us if you take a moment to fill it out with your payment intentions and you can print a receipt from this. Another very secure way is to go directly to the completed Ebay auction and click on the Vendio Checkout button. If you feel at all uncomfortable with either of these, I will gladly do it the old fashioned way if you email me and request this. I NEVER USE EBAY'S SECOND CHANCE OFFER FORMAT. If you receive one of these offers on one of my items, please do not fall for these or any other similar scams. I will ...
