The sculpture depicts the army musician riding on his stout and strong horse. (Beiwei Style) He looks like he is holding the music instrument by the manner. The horse and musician's face and his colorful clothing as well as on the ornate saddle blanket are in great details.
The horse is the seventh animal in the Chinese zodiac, an organization of the calendar into 12-year cycles, each represented by an animal associated with specific personality traits.
