# 1219 BOX OFCRACK YOUR OWN Mixed Lot of Geodes From Southern Middle Tennessee NO RESERVE! ~ BID WITH CONFIDENCE! Measurements of this Geodes: Various Sizes - 40 Rocks - Total Weight: 23 3/4 lbs. Found in Southern Middle Tennessee. These Geodes may have a hollow center with beautiful quartz deposits inside. The only way to find out is to "cut it or crack it open". Cut or crack carefully to reveal its shining interior. It's always exciting to see what's inside. Geodes began to form millions of years ago when the earth's crust was still in a molten state. Round gas pockets in the volatile-rich magma provided places for minerals to be deposited later, after the magma cooled. Refrain from smashing them open carelessly, because if t is a treasure inside you'll want to display it at its best. You can put the geode inside an old sock or cover with a rag before hitting with a hammer on a flat concrete surface and wear protective eyewear. This will prevent pieces of geode from flying and causing damage or injury. If you strike the geode too hard it will smash into lots of little pieces. It is better to start hitting the geode gently, gradually increasing the strength of the blows until the geode cracks open in as few pieces as possible. To cut them open you will need a lapidary saw. You can find out more about these by doing a search on your favorite search engine. These fascinating Geodes can form in all different shapes and sizes. The inside of each geode can vary widely. White or clear quartz crystals are the most common, but also amethyst, agate, jasper, or chalcedony may be found - or perhaps a combination. Each geode has a unique display of crystal inside it. They make interesting display items on their own, or can be used as garden stones, bookends, paperweights, necklaces, lamps, landscaping and much more. Slices can be cut to be used as jewelry, wind chimes or suncatchers. You can also use them in a rock tumbler. Geodes can also be used in school science projects and experiments. I have seen many crafted objects that highlight the beauty of these treasures. This would make a nice addition to any collection. Click to view my other auction items .
